AMERICAN star Demi Moore said she was shocked to win her first Golden Globe in 45 years of acting, for her role in the horror film “The Substance”.

On the evening of January 5 (Los Angeles time, or the morning of January 6 Hanoi time), Demi Moore won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical. In her speech, she said: “I really didn’t expect this to happen. I’m in shock. I’ve been in the industry for over 45 years and this is the first time I’ve won an award as an actress.”

According to Moore, 30 years ago, a producer told her that she could only participate in purely entertaining films, never play roles that required psychological depth and public recognition. For many years, she believed that person was right. However, after receiving an invitation to participate in The Substance , the actress realized her own worth and tried to improve her acting skills.

“Today, I celebrate this award as a mark of my perfection in acting, which is also the gift I receive for doing what I love. Thank you very much,” Moore concluded his speech.

The Substance earned Moore her third Golden Globe nomination. She had previously been nominated for Ghost (1990) and the television film If These Walls Could Talk (1996). The film was also nominated for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture (Margaret Qualley), and Best Director and Screenplay (Coralie Fargeat).

In the film, the star plays Oscar-winning actress Elisabeth Sparkle. When she turns 50, she is fired from her aerobics program because of her unattractive appearance. Elisabeth turns to a black market elixir that can divide her body’s cells and create a new, youthful, attractive variant – Sue (Margaret Qualley). However, this decision turns Elisabeth’s life into a nightmare.

Demi Moore successfully portrays the psychology of a lonely artist, struggling with social prejudice and addicted to a mysterious drug. The actress shows her understanding of the character, conveying many emotional aspects of Elisabeth: the desire for youth, the fear of aging and the despair of fading from public view.

The 62-year-old actress is one of Hollywood’s leading actresses with Ghost , A Few Good Men , Indecent Proposal , Disclosure , The Hunchback of Notre Dame . She has been on the list of the world’s most beautiful people by magazines such as People , Shape .

She has been married three times, marrying musician Freddy Moore from 1981 to 1985. Moore then married Bruce Willis in 1987 and divorced after 13 years. Moore married Aston Kutcher – 16 years her junior – in 2005, a relationship that ended in 2013.

The Golden Globes are run by Eldridge Industries and Dick Clark Productions (DCP), after the Hollywood Foreign Press Association sold all assets, rights and ownership of the show in June 2023. Starting in 2024, each category will have six films competing for awards, instead of five as before.

Last year, Oppenheimer swept the Golden Globes, including the big prize for Best Drama. In television, HBO’s Succession took home four awards, including Best Drama Series.
