A Southern California couple managed to film their escape from the deadly Los Angeles fires — and the harrowing footage has gone viral.

Video captured on Jeffrey Ku and Cheryll Ku’s phones and their Ring camera showed the moments the couple fled their Altadena home on Tuesday, Jan. 7 after spotting the Eaton fire burning near their home.

“Hey babe, I need you to come out here right now,” Cheryll told her husband in the video, which has been gotten over 32 million views since it was posted to Instagram on Saturday, Jan. 11. “We have a very big problem,” Cheryll added.

Jeffrey then raced outside to see the horrific sight. “It was definitely something out of a nightmare,” he later told CBS affiliate KCBS-TV.

Just moments earlier, Jeffrey had been sitting on the couple’s couch after the power went out, according to CW affiliate KTLA. At the time, they were unaware of the impending danger.

Soon, they were evacuating. On Instagram, Jeffrey described it as “34 minutes of pure terror,” and recalled grabbing what he could while racing to escape.

“I took videos of the fire between trips to the car and I never would have imagined how quickly the conditions could get worse,” Jeffrey wrote in the caption of his post.

Ash and embers were seen raining down from the sky and sirens were heard wailing as Jeffrey and Cheryll dashed in and out of their home with personal items.

Before they departed, Jeffrey got a chance to spray the home’s roof with a garden hose — and as they left, Jeffrey filmed himself saying, “Please God, please save our house.”

“By the time we left, smoke had filled the air making it hard to [breathe], embers flying everywhere, and the sky was bright orange,” he added in the caption.

Luckily, the couple’s home survived the blaze. “Grateful that our home still stands 🙏❤️,” Jeffrey revealed on the social media platform.

However, many of the couple’s friends “have lost everything,” according to Jeffrey. “We are heartbroken and devastated for our community and Los Angeles,” he wrote in the video’s caption.

Jeffrey also applauded the crews who battled the blaze. “We are so thankful to all the first responders and the heroes who continue to fight the fires and help those in need,” he added.

As of Tuesday, Jan. 14, the Los Angeles County Fire Department reported that the Eaton fire was still over 14,000 acres in size and was 35% contained.
