Mohamed Salah joked that Jamie Carragher would have resisted giving him the Man of the Match award after Liverpool’s 2-0 win against Manchester City. The Egyptian superstar provided an assist and netted a penalty at Anfield on Sunday (December 1).

Carragher had found fault with Salah midweek after the 32-year-old suggested he was closer to leaving the club than staying. His contract expires next summer and the Reds forward went public with the situation.

Carragher said:

“I am very disappointed with Mo Salah. That interview last night… Liverpool have Real Madrid in midweek and Manchester City next weekend.”

Salah responded to recent criticism over his controversial contract revelation with inspired performances. Gary Neville named him Man of the Match in Liverpool‘s win against title rivals City, which helped them move nine points clear.

Salah has been in red-hot form this season, with 12 goals and 10 assists in 19 games across competitions. He arguably should have had more goals on the day, missing one big chance among three opportunities at goal.

Carragher joked in response to the interview that he’d have given the award to Van Dijk. He wrote on X:

“I would’ve give it to VVD to be fair!”

Salah and Van Dijk played a crucial role in helping Liverpool beat their title rivals. They have moved nine points clear at the top of the Premier League after 13 games.

Daniel Sturridge gave his thoughts on Mohamed Salah’s superb form and another dazzling performance in the win over Manchester City. The former striker of both clubs was asked about the contract situation on Sky Sports:

“It’s a Jerry Maguire moment you’ve gotta show me the money! It’s as simple as it gets, he’s scored 224 goals for the club, this season top scorer, assists top of that. Where do you replace those numbers?”

Salah has been a protagonist for the Merseysiders since arriving from AS Roma for £34.3 million in July 2017. He’s written his name in the club’s history books with record-breaking feats including becoming their Premier League all-time top scorer.
