Phoenix Ikner was arrested following the mass shooting that killed 2 people, injured 6

The man arrested following a mass shooting at the Florida State University had been kidnapped as a minor by his mother who then took the boy to Norway. Phoenix Ikner, 20, is accused of carrying out a mass shooting at FSU’s Tallahassee campus on Thursday, April 17, killing two people and injuring six. As authorities investigate Phoenix, more details are coming to light about his upbringing and his political views. According to Leon County court records reviewed by PEOPLE, in 2015, his biological mother removed him from the state in violation of a custody order, after telling the boy’s father she was taking him on spring break holiday.

Ikner would have been about 10-years-old at the time.

His biological mother, Anne-Mari Eriksen, took him in March 2015 to Norway, in violation of the custody agreement with his father, per a probable cause affidavit reviewed by PEOPLE.

During their time in Norway, Phoenix’s father told police, Anne-Mari repeatedly skirted his questions about when the child would be back in the United States.

While away in Norway, Phoenix, who at the time was named Christian Gunnar Eriksen, missed his school tests, doctor’s appointments and medications he was taking for a diagnosed growth hormone disorder and ADHD, per the affidavit.

Upon her eventual return to the United States, Anne-Mari was sentenced after pleading no contest to the charge of removing a minor from the state, court records show.

It’s unclear whether Phoenix remained in contact with Anne-Mari following the kidnapping.

Ikner was shot by police and taken to the hospital following the shooting, along with six others. Ikner’s reported stepmom is Leon County Sheriff’s Deputy Jessica Ikner, Local 10 reported, citing court records. He allegedly used her gun in the shooting, Leon County Sheriff Walter McNeil said at a press conference hours after the shooting.
