Young centre-back Pau Cubarsi suffered a serious facial injury in Barca’s 5-2 win over Red Star Belgrade in the fourth round of the first round of the UEFA Champions League.
In the early morning of November 7 (Hanoi time), Cubarsi bravely rushed into a fight for the ball with a Belgrade player in the second half. The young Barca star was kicked in the face by his opponent’s studded boot and fell to the ground. Cubarsi’s face was covered in blood, forcing medical staff to rush onto the field. Coach Hansi Flick then had to let Cubarsi leave the field, making way for Sergi Dominguez to replace him.

After the match, teammate Pedri posted a photo of Cubarsi smiling and posing in the locker room. However, the young defender’s face shocked fans.
Cubarsi needed 10 stitches in his right chin, in addition to lacerations all over his face. The blood on Cubarsi’s face has not even been wiped clean.
Coach Hansi Flick confirmed that Pau Cubarsi is fine. Flick even joked that Cubarsi is young enough to get a few stitches without feeling as uncomfortable as someone his age.
Gavi also posted a short video of Cubarsi after the match with the title “my warrior”. In this clip, Pau Cubarsi appeared quite happy despite his serious injury.
Barcelona will now check how serious Cubarsi’s injury is and whether the centre-back will be available for action this weekend, when Hansi Flick and his players face Real Sociedad in round 13 of La Liga.
If Cubarsi cannot play in the important match against Real Sociedad, Barca will suffer a big loss. The young centre-back has had an amazing season, playing a pivotal role in Barca’s defense.
