In the aftermath of the catastrophic floods that have ravaged parts of Texas, billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has stepped forward with a powerful act of compassion. The tech mogul has announced that he will cover the funeral expenses for all confirmed victims of the disaster and is also providing direct financial assistance to the affected families.
The flash floods, which struck unexpectedly after several days of torrential rain, have left a trail of devastation across multiple counties, including Llano, Burnet, and Travis. At least 94 lives have been confirmed lost, with dozens still missing. Thousands have been displaced, and entire communities have been reduced to debris. Emergency services continue to carry out search and rescue operations amid treacherous conditions.
Musk, who currently resides in Texas and has multiple ventures operating in the state—including Tesla’s Gigafactory in Austin and SpaceX facilities in Boca Chica—made the announcement via a statement posted to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter:
“My heart breaks for the families who lost loved ones in these terrible floods. No one should have to face the pain of burying a child, a parent, or a friend alone. I will personally cover all funeral costs and offer direct financial aid to those most affected.”
The gesture has been widely praised across social media, with hashtags like #ElonCares and #TexasStrong trending nationwide. Local officials have confirmed that Musk’s team is working closely with state emergency coordinators to identify families in need and to expedite the financial assistance.
“Mr. Musk’s support is deeply appreciated. It’s helping lift a heavy burden for families who are grieving and trying to survive,” said Mayor Juanita Delgado of Llano, one of the hardest-hit towns.
In addition to covering funeral expenses, Musk’s philanthropic outreach includes:
